Free Excel Budget Template

An excel budget template can assist you in tracking all your finances and keep you organized.  Here is a simple way to make your own free budget template using excel.

What you need:

* Computer or Notebook
* Microsoft Excel or Money tree software
* Calculator
                                 * Household printer
                                 * Daily Spending Record
  1. To create a free budget template first open your Microsoft Excel program and upload a new excel page.
  2. Type in excel columns at the top of your free budget template to represent a weekly, monthly, or bi-weekly format depending on the payment schedule for your household.
  3. Place your headings to the top left of your excel template format page to represent each free budget category.
  4. On your excel template, make your first budget category Total Household Income and your last cell Net Household Income Available.
  5. Format the remaining budget categories into headings like Household, Auto, taxes, investments, savings plans, living expenses, and miscellaneous to enter daily spending.
Tips:
  • You are free to use multiple sizes of fonts, styles, and bold or underline functions to format your excel budget headings. You can change your template cell widths as well to accommodate your heading lengths.
  • Adjust your excel numeric format to currency and choose the number of decimal places. You can also format the way your negative currency is shown on your free budget template. You can choose a minus sign, or parentheses around, or even represent them in red.
  • Use the excel sum function to add all cells across or down your template depending on your free budget format, and have your total tabulated at the bottom under your Net Household Income Available category.
Additional Tips:

* Use the free excel format function to format your negative currency as red to stand out in your household budget program
* Format your currency without decimals and round daily spending up to the nearest dollar and round household income down
* You are free to use the automatic sum function on your excel format to help add your columns quicker
