Home Budget Worksheet


Here is a worksheet you can make yourself to organize and manage your home budget. This budget worksheet is free to make yourself and you can tailor it to your specific budget schedule and needs. It will do all the calculations for you and you can make it free if you have access to the internet on a computer.

How to set up your home budget worksheet

  1. Sign up for an account with Google docs
  2. Open a new spreadsheet document in the top left corner
  3. Make three column headings across the top of your spreadsheet document titled Month/Year, Proposed Budget and Actual Budget
  4. Make the rows to the left starting at the top left below your columns titles as follows:
Income
-salary
-bonus
-commissions
-other income
Income Total
Must Pay Expenses
-mortgage
-auto
-insurance
-retirement
-education
-loans/credit
Family Needs
-food
-clothing/school supplies
-utilities
-fuel
-maintenance supplies
-phone
-entertainment
Discretionary

-taxes

-pocket allowance
Expense Total
Balance
 

How to use your Home Budget Worksheet

Put your projected budget amounts for each income and expense item under your Proposed column and total them for each category.  Subtract your expense totals from your income total to get your balance.  Then use the actual column to enter your real income and expense amounts for each item and compare them to your estimates to keep your budget in balance.

* Use your sum function in the top right of your spreadsheet tools to add or subtract columns.

To Add: 
  • Click the sum function in the upper left of your document sheet tools
  • Choose and highlight the Add function
  • Put your cursor on the box you want a total
  • Click on each box you want to add followed by comma to create your formula for that total
  • Create formulas for each category total as well as to subtract your expense total from Income to get your Balance
